Re-branding and conceptualizing Hilton Zamalek Residences through hard renovation changing the plans & design of the public spaces and the guestrooms, as well as changes in the elevations, capitalizing on the existing and facing the challenges of the shear walls in the structural system. Scope of my work included architecture design as well design coordination with all the sub-consultants (Interior, lighting, signage, MEP, Fire Life & Safety, Food & Beverage and kitchen &Back of House).

Entrance Canopy: Plates suspended at different heights creating shade and shadows and a captivating feeling while going into the hotel. Lighting is integrated in the design for the entrance experience at night as well.

El Heiz lies 40 km from Bahariya and 400 km southwest of Cairo. The village has 3800 residents who produce 500 tons of dates. Farmers sell the harvested dates for very low prices to traders/ middlemen, then the dates as end products are sold for high prices in Cairo. This project involved developing a dates pack-house through participatory design, to enable people to process their own dates and to contribute to a more sustainable community economy. The project was funded by 2 investors from the American University in Cairo and New School University in New York. Design Process: A series of workshops, discussions & sketches with the locals. Design Concept: An inside-out approach with everything following the process of dates production in order to create a building that is functional and comfortable for the users in every step of production. Passive design techniques were implemented to maximize flow of air, natural daylight, and reduce the need for cooling.
