In this study, my team and I use reviews from BeerAdvocate, a popular online beer rating platform, to develop a text classifier that categorizes beers as "okay" (rating between 3.50-3.99), "good" (4.00-4.49), or "excellent" (4.50-5.00). We tested various NLP models and evaluated them using the F1-score to determine the most effective approach.

A Study in Beer Review Classification

This network analysis aims to identify any individual or network factors affecting the outcome of R&D teams’ patent applications.

Based on the network analysis, we recommend the following characteristics of future R&D teams to increase the chances of successful patent applications:
1. There should be a minimum of 3-4 direct communication connections between employees in the same group
2. Members of the group should be well-connected to other employees in their unit and should be connected to employees in other units
3. Given that individuals with tenure in the middle of the company tenure distribution (10-15 years) had an increased number of successful patents, we recommend giving some learning and development courses to new hires and to employees with high tenure (more than 15 years)
4. We also recommend cross-validation in the scoring process and retraining unit managers on the scoring system to ensure standardisation

Network analysis of R&D patent applications

In this study, my team and I applied Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and hierarchical clustering to the top 50 highest-rated movies on IMDb, focusing on numerical data. After standardizing the data, we retained the first three principal components in PCA, which captured 90% of the variance. We used visualization methods, including elbow, correlation, and snake plots, to display the PCA results. Following this, hierarchical clustering was used to group the data, with the clusters' characteristics visualized through box plots and word clouds.
