I need a color-changing paper test (similar to a litmus test) for testing sugar-alcohol. Something small in size, like a small strip of paper. When breath containing 0.17g any of these sugar alcohols (Xylitol, Mannitol, Sorbitol, Glycerol, Erythritol) is blown on strip of paper, it should change color.

Hello draupnir011, Since I saw your need I started to do some basic, preliminary research to get an overview about the possibilities to obtain a product like the one you want. I think it is possible, however I need to do a more deep research into the state of the art (patents) and in scientific journals on chromophores. I think I can come up with sensor biomolecules to detect the sugars you need. I just have a couple questions: 1. You need the device to exclusively detect only those sugars, not more and not less, right? 2. How fast do you need to test to be? Seconds, Minutes, Overnight? 3. How simple you want it? Just breadth it? Or it may be breath, mix, shake...? I have worked with polymers (to make the matrix of your device) and despite I am not specialized in chromophores, I understand their molecular behavior and might come up with a tailored chromophore in the visual wavelength that may work with your sugars. I propose you this: Award me this project for USD$833 and give me 15 days to do my research. If after that period of time I cant find out or come up with a suitable biosensor for your product I dont claim any money from you. You get back the money in escrow and we both write positive comments to each other. And if I am able to find out or come up with suitable biosensor, I will get the whole fee from you. In these kind of projects (innovation or ideation) it is always uncertain as to obtain a specific outcome. If my proposal sounds fair to you, contact me.

Hi, I'll be glad to take the job and do it qualitatively. It is known that polyhydric alcohols form stable colored complexes with different organic and organometallic substances. There is an obvious opportunity to pick up those materials which will meet the requirements of the task. I also have experience with colored complexes of metals. The result of my work will be: - written report - captured video - solving additional tasks relating to the main work
