Research names in your region who are inspiration to kids

I need names from your country/region who overcame adversity/disability/other difficulties from childhood and became heroes who can inspire kids or even adults as role models. At this time I need only names and references (URL from newspaper or other website etc.) to know why they are role models. Prefer names which are not commonly known outside your country/region. I hope to followup with more detailed stories after we pick the names you propose and do more work with the selected workers.
