Solidworks design required for a computer case for a very small storage server using 3.5" hard drives. Some pictures from a similar project are provided below. The designer will be creating an initial solidworks design based on the use of sheet metal. I will then send this to the design team at the manufacturing company that I will be using for refinement (they will have the actual components to play with so will be able to refine it) and then get one built. My current intention is to open-source the design once it is refined / complete and once I have a working build / proof of concept. Then others can refine the design further or just get these devices built. I may also start selling the devices if there is demand from people who like the idea but can't be bothered to build these themselves. Front [login to view URL] Note that the control panel on the front is not required for this project, and I'm not intending to use any plexiglass (100% sheet metal is fine), but there should some kind of a "lid" where the plexiglass in that picture is (so that you can get access to the hard drives easily). Back [login to view URL] Note the positioning of the fan, and the back of the 3.5" motherboard (the sockets at the bottom). Side [login to view URL] Note this design only has 8 drives, so the design I am proposing would be a bit longer as it has 11 drives. Also note that for this project I would like a front panel that is perpendicular to the sides and parallel to the back (rather than the angled one in this design) so that the case could actually be propped up on the front panel if required. Another way to say this is that the side-on profile of the case would be a simple rectangle. ===Components=== Motherboard: Quanmax Industrial KEEX-2030 Atom 3.5" Mainboard (Intel Atom N270) Embedded Board Dimensions: 102 x 146 mm x 30mm URL for picture: [login to view URL] Notes: Note the positioning of the pci-e slot on the left side of the board (on page 1 of the pdf) as the RocketRAID card will need to sit in this slot, and note that the plugs at the bottom should be at the back of the case, as can be seen in this image: [login to view URL] Further, note the positions of the screw holes on the corners of the board - there should be raised points in the bottom of the case for the screws to go into into the bottom of the case. RAID card: Highpoint RocketRAID 2680 (low profile pci-e) Dimensions: 79.3mm x 65mm x 20mm URL for picture: [login to view URL](rr2680)-8-channel-internal-pci-e-x4-to-sas-sata-ii-raid-controller(card) Notes: Note that an additional 20mm of room should be allowed on top of the 79.3mm length, as plugs will need to be plugged into the right hand side of the card (into the two metallic sockets shown at the URL above) Power supply unit: Serener 120w DC-DC PSU Dimensions: 110 mm x 55 mm x 15 mm URL for picture: [login to view URL] Storage: Eleven 3.5" standard hard disk drives Dimensions (for each drive): 101.6 mm × 25.4 mm × 146 mm URL for picture: [login to view URL] Notes: Note that the drives must slot into place with about 5-10mm of space between each (so there must be ridges on the sides of the case for them to slot between and to hold them apart) and that they must be angled rather than fully vertical as can be seen in this picture [login to view URL] . Also note that there must be a supporting ridge at the bottom of the slot for each drive, so that the drive doesn't slide down onto the motherboard. Cooling: Scythe fan Dimensions: 120mm x 120mm x 10mm URL: [login to view URL]
