We are an electric bicycle kit supplier and are looking to enhance our existing product by developing a faster charger for our battery packs that charges each of the 12 cells in our battery packs individually to 3.6v. The cells in our battery pack can be charged at 3 Amps as a standard charge or up to 10 Amps as a fast charge. We would like a solution that charges each cell individually at least 3 Amps. Our battery packs are just 12 cells in series with a balancing connector connecting to each cell. There is no BMS, so there is nothing to prevent charging on an individual cell level. Other solutions in the market that charge and balance a 12 cell pack are complicated and charge the whole battery pack while balancing individual cells. We want a solution that is dedicated to our particular battery pack and actually charges each cell individually using the balancing connectors on each battery pack. A simple red/green led indication of when each cell is charged is sufficient. We don't need complex readouts. We want a solution that is just plug and play. We want our solution to be as lightweight and small as possible and which can be manufactured cost effectively (ideally for less than $30 each) in large volumes. (1500 units plus). Unit should operate off both 240V and 120V AC household power. Deliverables for this project are circuit designs, a working prototype for testing and sufficient manufacturing details to allow us to seek accurate quotes from manufacturers. Bidders from any country are welcome as project will be managed by email, skype etc. We will provide more detail to winning bidder including specs of battery cells and ideas about implementation.

importtant question... do you have a thermal detection component on the cell's ? this is needed for healthy and fast charging of the cells... Excessive heat destroys the cells..

We are a group of experience electrical, mechanical, software and QA engineer in US (EE, SW, QA) and Vietnam (SW, ME). There are 2 approaches for your product: Simple recharger and Smart/Intelligent charger. My bid price here is for simple charger. Intelligent charger engineering cost will be $1000 more and 30 more days (for SW to calibrate with the battery). The BOM (Bill Of Material) cost of Smart/Intelligent charger bill be about $2 to $4 more. Either case, we can have a solution to charge the individual cell. The Smart/Intelligent charger will monitor the energy going to the battery, and will stop the charge when it knows the battery receive enough charging energy (full of charge), and will never overcharge the battery, thus will improve the battery live. The smart charger can also keeps track of the battery aging, keeps track of the energy discharge from the battery. We are developing a Smart charger for home use UPS devices for Vietnam market; the device will use automobile battery as backup power source for home. Since your product will be sold in Australia, and maybe US, and customers allow 2 weeks to 1 month to return the product. Smart charger will keep track if the customer over use the product during the returnable period. For example, customer allows using 4 hours max during 2 weeks period, if they use over 4 hrs, they cannot return the product.

Hi, we have been building lithium ion battery chargers for a number of years. Usually we use the Analog device ADP2291 but this only handles 1.5A. We would recommend using an off the shelf chip or using a small 8 pin micro to program the charge cycle - really depends on the application. Also, there are two choices of charging - linear or switching. We are in Sydney, which makes it easier to communicate. You can give the project to someone in India or China but you may find communication and warranty a problem.
