Extract Specific Data from XML files to be displayed on local html page

I need a HTML page that can display the data from files in a specific location on the network where the required .xml data is stored. All .xml files have an identical format for the data contained. I require that 4 specific fields of data are extracted from each file and displayed in a table on the HTML page. The default option for displaying data from these files would be "Current Date" thus only displaying data from records created on that day. Alternately - the option to display data for a specific date range is also required. Ideally the HTML page once open would look immediately to the network location of the .xml files, read the data from the required fields and populate the table with data from files with the "Current Date" as the initial sort criteria. If data is required for a longer period - a couple of Calendar's at the top of the page could be used to re-sort the data over a date range. Other concepts or solutions will be readily considered to accomplish this task.
