Chinese/English Classified Advertising Site/Database Application

Part 1 - New Website Development of a New Chinese/English frontend for a Classified Advertising/Community News site. Starting with the following categories: • Businesses for Sale • Houses for Sale • Rental Accommodation • Share Accommodation • Employment • Cars for Sale • Dating Other categories and news services to be added in the future, as are Mobile/Tablet devices. Part 2 - Dynamic Web-based Classified Advertising Application This application is called by the above website and presents dynamically from a second server inside the main Chinese/English web page. The job will entail examining, re-coding where necessary, and testing of a multifaceted web-based dynamic Classified Advertising database application to make it uni-code compatible so that the new Chinese/English site (above) using the application can be multi-lingual and can also facilitate searches in either language. Any re-coding or database structural changes will need to take into account that other languages may be added in the future, as will compatibility with mobile/tablet devices. The database application contains approximately 30,000 lines of documented code in PHP and Javascript with reliance on jQuery libraries and Google APIs. The application is currently running on an Ubuntu server and will need to be set up of a new Ubuntu server 12.04LTS in a LAMP configuration. The application includes functions covering areas such as: • Membership • Administration of advertising categories/pricing/layouts • Placement/retirement of classified ads • Various forms of searching including text/category/location/price, etc. • e-Carts/Payments • Payment of commissions to resellers The web based frontend and the database application are to reside on two different servers, although for testing they may reside as two VM's on the same physical hardware. In a full production environment it is likely that the two VM's will be separated. Potential bidders deemed to have suitable skill sets may be at our discretion be provided with limited access to existing documentation and the existing application prior to final bidding, subject to signing of a non-disclosure agreement and non-reuse of code in development of applications likely to compete wholly or in part with the present project or any other project using the Classified Advertising database application. Bids made using other technologies will not be considered.
