You'll be hard pressed to run off even 2500 copies for less than a buck a piece. Much depends on the kinds of inserts, traycard, etc. And, do you have your own artwork? Your total cost does not include the freelance costs. You also have marketing and distribution to consider. I've currently involved in a comprehensive recording project myself. I ended up building a home studio because of recording costs, CD and duplication. I'm a songwriter (and freelance writer), so I'm not billing myself as an artist. This means I don't have to have the standard CDs expected of artists and bands. Plus, I decided to go the digital route and feature my tunes online as mp3's. The studio where your daughter is recording should have a bead on CD costs and duplication, IF they are a legitimate recording facility. Usually studios offer recording/CD replication packages (although not necessarily for a run of 2500 to 5000). If you do an online search for "CD duplication," you'll come across some of the most well known dupe houses available nationally. You'll see prices vary, but total cost is considerably more than your budget. I think there is a way to do it within your budget (but not a run of 5000), if you do your own artwork, use a one page insert and find the cheapest jewel case possible. You could even run off copies without cases or artwork, and do the packaging yourself (but no shrinkwrap). With the right budget and duplication facility, the turnaround could be much quicker.
