Magento 2 login + new account on checkout not redirecting to checkout after

The issue is a redirection issue when checking out. If you go to [login to view URL] and add a product to cart then if you click 'checkout as new customer' or 'login' both options don't redirect to checkout as they should 1. if you click 'checkout as new customer' it will redirect to customer dashboard after customer registration 2. If you click 'login' it will just redirect back to the same page after login Please fix so that once customer has created a new account OR logged in they are redirected to continue the checkout process
