I am attempting to install and integrate CKEditor on my website. My employer requires me to use this program and I am trying to learn it. I am a technical writer, and am somewhat familiar with CLI commands in Unix, Linux and C++, but I DO NOT read or write code. You will probably have to explain stuff that seems very basic to you.
For this project I am using an iMac running Mac OS 10.5.8. To write my HTML pages I use Kompozer. My FTP program is Cyberduck. My website is hosted by MacHighway. I know basic HTML and can hand-code web pages if I have to.
I have downloaded CKEditor 4.1.2 Standard and unzipped it. I uploaded the files to a ckeditor directory as instructed. The sample files work fine. That's as far as I have gotten. I cannot get the editor window to appear. I don't understand how this program is supposed to work. The documentation is written by idiots; as a professional technical editor, I give it an F.
What I need:
How do I use this program?
How do I get the CKEditor window to appear on a page in a browser?
How do I save my changes?
Do I have to change every single one of my current pages to include a command, in order to use CKEditor?
How do I keep strangers from editing those pages that have CKEditor on them?
What I do not need:
Information on how to enter or format text, etc. What I've seen of the CKEditor editing window looks very much like the edit window in Wikipedia, and I know how to use that.
I suspect that I can learn all of this in a couple of 8 hour days, with the right help.
I am Senior Software Engineer with 3+ years of experience, in Bachelor's i worked as TA(teacher assistant), hopefully in less time we will cover all these things and discuss security issues etc .. will enjoy learning.
