Customization of Navigation (Header) - Create Translucent Header Navigation for Genesis Child Theme

I would like to alter an existing header, without changing the theme. The website is WordPress and using the Genesis Framework. The header should look very similar to MotownRecords.com. It should be translucent with a fade so that it looks great regardless of the color behind it. The fade should be black and darker on top and lighter on the bottom of the header navigation.
