Importar dados de uma planilha Excel para um banco de dados MySQL pelo PHP

I need to import some data from an Excel sheet (.xlsx) to a Mysql database through PHP. The source code need to be 100% open source for future upgrades. The sheet may have from 1 to 1,000 products, and it must be imported to database, with fields like product name, quantity, price, date, barcode, etc.
