UPDATE: Strange you can not find anybody.
Main idea is the difference between continuous (analytic) and discrete treatments.
Raw method: construct analytic form of the plane equation on three corner points (using voxel center values) and find the minima of the difference between grid points and plane values in every direction.
I think actually main problem is not the algorithm, but how it can be implemented to work fast for large number of grid points.
