hey all, I have a few recalcitrant hosts in my environment that need to talk to the puppet server but can't. On the puppet server itself when you try to start the puppet service you get this error: [root@puppet:~] #service puppet start Starting puppet: /bin/bash: /usr/sbin/puppetd: No such file or directory [FAILED] There are 9 hosts in the environment and 3 of them (including the puppet server) are resisting 'puppetization'. All the reluctant hosts in questions are running CentOS. Two are at Centos 6.5 and one is at CentOS 5.10. Thanks Tim

I've managed, built and maintained Puppet environments of more than 500 servers. I expect the problems will be small, easily fixed and the fixes easily explained for future reference. To adequately fix the problems I will probably want to remove the current Puppet installations on the current servers and start from scratch. This will not remove any Puppet recipes already in place. If needed I can be very useful in defining the further steps of making the best use of Puppet and configuration management in general.

I have experience running puppet and similar apps with a background in middle tier applications, systems administration, and automation for over a decade. There are a few things I can think of off the top of my head that seem to match the symptoms you're seeing, and they should be pretty straightforward to find. Let me know what sort of access we can work out to the machines themselves (I'm guessing a shared desktop session of some sort), and what sort of time you'd be looking at to do some sort of desktop sharing.
