A site search engine with PHP and MySQL

I require a customizable site search engine using PHP and MySQL. This is a home project and I need to find out how to search a MySQL database using PHP to return data held within the database on a results page also required, how to associate the corresponding images with the entries in the MySQL database and display them on the results page.
