Hi, I have already coded similar applications to export XML data provided over the network (that is, API calls to web services) to Excel, using both PHP and Perl. In particular, I have written: * a wolfram alpha client (plain text request / XML API replies - Perl) to scrape data from xml returned from plain text queries to populate excel result files * a web component that extracts XML data from a web application about nutritional habits and produces Excel sheets as output (XML input from local storage - PHP) elaborating the data and executing statistical analysis on them * a book keeping automation script that handles massive submission and replies to/from isbndb, amazon AWS and Google Books to get titles, informations and when available price for big lists of books, collecting the output as an Excel spreadsheet (text input, various kind of queries - both xml and plaintext, XML output - PHP) Let me know about these api calls to be made so that I can start to code a solution for you. We can discuss about the time and the money it will take to complete the project once I'm given enough information to give you back a schedule of when the whole thing will be ready. From what you say, the time should be < 1 week (like 5 days), but we can still discuss about price.
