Calibre ([login to view URL]) is a free downloadable software that is very popular among ebook reader owners. It helps to download and to manage books and news.
One important feature of Calibre is the ability to fetch news from websites of newspapers, newsfeeds, etc. To fetch such news, Calibre uses scripts that are called "recipes". They are written in a programming language called "python". Users of Calibre can write their recipes themselves and load them into the Calibre software to fetch the news from the newssites they like.
Most recipes are just adaptations of other, older recipes, to specific newssites or newsfeeds. Number of fetched articles, size, age of news, area of interest, time-schedule of fetch and many, many more things can be programmed to make each recipe apt to be used with each single newsfeed or newssite, according to the user wishes.
The Scriplance programmer that will be awarded with this project shall write 10 (ten) recipes for 10 (ten) newssites or newsfeeds of my choice and help me loading them into Calibre. The programmer will write such 10 recipes according to my instructions.
The programmer will download and install Calibre on his own computer. Will familiarize with the recipes and the way Calibre works. It will not take more than one hour for an average programmer to understand how the python language works. Calibre's built in help will provide with samples and with a detailed explanation of the script language. Calibre will provide some 1000 recipes as samples and their number is growing every day.
