COM/ OLE: Check if iDispatch is valid

I have a piece of code that casts an iDispatch to a DWORD, and later back to iDispatch again. Seeing as the DWORD to be cast to iDispatch might not be pointing to a valid iDispatch, current code crashes hard. I need a method of checking if the iDispatch is indeed still valid - if the iDispatch has not been released in the meantime. This may come down to a search on Google, or even simple solution - I just do not have the time to work my way around it.
