GENERAL TASK
I need a tool for Access (Access 2010, but should work also in 2007 and with Access 2003 type databases, i.e. mdb) to perform a Lookup task:
I have 2 databases, a Source database and a Target database.
The Source database is what you provide; it containt the Lookup tool, and it is made to store also multiple tables whith lookup data (searchstring/returnstring).
The Target database is any database that comes onto my desk in my workflow. (Concretely, these are data of education events from several schools, with title, venue, price, duration, etc. I need to tidy up the addresses, that’s the purpose of the tool). Let’s say, in the Target database, in a table named tbl_courses, there is field called EVENTPLACE, containing basically street names and house numbers, plus, however, other stuff.
I want Access to compare the contents of the field EVENTPLACE with strings (here: parts of Street names) from the lookup table in the Source, field SEARCHSTRING.
If values match, Access should take values from the field RETURNSTRING and put this into a (then newly created) field in Target.
EXAMPLE
Say, I have in Target.tbl_courses
[EVENTPLACES]
Flowerstreet 1, bla bla bla
Treestreet 34, bla bla etc.
Bla bla, Rosegarden 34
Bla Rosegarden 34, bla bla bla
Rosegarden 35 cheerio, hullo, hullo
This is at 137 Moonw. Cresc., please use the garden door
In Source.tbl_lookup-for-school-xyz we have:
[SEARCHSTRINGS] --- [RETURNSTRINGS]
Flowers --- Flowerstreet 1
Treestr --- Treestreet 34
Rosegarden 34 --- Rosegarden 34
Rosegarden 35 --- Rosegarden 35 (backyard)

After the operation, in Target.tbl_courses, there is a new field containing
[TIDYSTREETS]

SELECTING ONE of MANY LOOKUP TABLES
I should be able to define as many different lookup tables (one for each school), and tell the tool which lookup table to use in the given situation.
